Context

Mallplaza is one of LATAM's largest mall chains — 30+ malls, 5,000+ stores across Chile, Peru and Colombia. The previous customer site was a slow Drupal

• Gatsby hybrid; the team needed a refactor that could survive 5,000+ pages across multiple locales without burning the build budget every week.

What I led

• A microfrontend split using Gatsby themes — seven squads, each owning a vertical, deploying independently into a single composed bundle.
• A CI/CD overhaul on GitLab with incremental builds — deploy times went from ~18 minutes to ~2.
• A dynamic schema-form feature built directly against Contentful, saving $10K+/yr on Contentful storage by avoiding bloated content models.
• Mentorship for the team until senior engineers and tech leads were hired and on-boarded.

Outcome

• ~$200K/year saved on build infrastructure.
• Faster, calmer release cadence — squads ship without stepping on each other.
• A team that no longer needs me to operate.
